Child psychology services support children and youth in understanding their emotions, behaviours, and experiences in a safe, developmentally appropriate way. Our child psychologists assess social-emotional, behavioural, cognitive, and learning needs, and provide evidence-based interventions tailored to each child’s unique strengths and challenges.

Through play-based strategies, talk therapy, and family collaboration, we help children build emotional awareness, coping skills, resilience, and confidence. Common concerns addressed include anxiety, mood difficulties, attention and focus challenges, emotional regulation, school stress, social skills, behavioural concerns, and adjustment to life changes.

Parents and caregivers are an essential part of the process. We work closely with families to provide guidance, practical strategies, and ongoing support that extends beyond the therapy room. Our goal is to create a warm, supportive environment where children feel understood, valued, and empowered to thrive at home, school, and in their communities.

A Child and Youth Assessment is a comprehensive evaluation designed to better understand a child or adolescent’s learning profile, cognitive functioning, attention, social-emotional development, and overall strengths and needs. This type of assessment may include a psychoeducational evaluation and/or focused assessment for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and learning differences, depending on the referral questions.

The assessment process typically involves a combination of standardized testing, clinical interviews, behavioural observations, and information gathered from parents, teachers, and the child or youth. Areas assessed may include intellectual functioning, academic skills (reading, writing, mathematics), attention and executive functioning, language, memory, emotional regulation, social communication, and adaptive functioning.

The goal of a Child and Youth Assessment is to clarify diagnoses when appropriate, identify learning strengths and challenges, and understand how these factors impact functioning at home, school, and in social settings. Findings are used to provide clear, practical recommendations to support learning, emotional well-being, and development, including school accommodations, intervention strategies, and planning for future transitions.

Assessments are individualized and developmentally appropriate, with an emphasis on collaboration with families and schools to ensure results are meaningful, supportive, and actionable.

The goal of an Adult Assessment is to clarify diagnoses when appropriate, identify strengths and areas of challenge, and understand how cognitive, emotional, and social factors impact functioning across academic, vocational, and personal domains. Results are used to inform diagnosis, treatment planning, workplace or post-secondary accommodations, and support planning.

Assessments are individualized, collaborative, and strengths-based, with an emphasis on supporting self-understanding, identity development, and practical strategies to enhance daily functioning, well-being, and long-term success.

I have always wanted to work in mental health. I have an undergraduate degree in Criminology and Psychology from the University of Ottawa, a diploma in Addiction Education from McMaster University and an M.A. in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I made the move from Ottawa to Calgary in 2014 where I decided to take the steps necessary to become a psychologist.

I’ve worked in the field since 2009, starting out in a shelter setting working with chronically homeless, mentally unwell, and addicted populations. For many years I worked as an addictions counsellor in intake and assessment at a detox facility in Ottawa. I also have years of experience working with troubled youth in a closed-custody detention centre. Since moving to Alberta, I’ve had the unique experience of working with street entrenched, marginalized populations, both adult and youth.

Counselling is a collaborate approach and having a strong therapeutic relationship is the key to success. I work with individuals and couples who may be struggling with an array of different issues. I utilize a client centered, non-judgmental approach to build relationships with my clients. Through the use of many different therapeutic frameworks I find what works best for the specific needs of my client. I draw from many different theoretical frameworks.

I moved to Cochrane with my husband in 2016. We now have two daughters, aged 1 and 3 and we intend to make Cochrane our forever home.

Jada is a counselling psychology intern with a strong foundation in child development, parenting, and family dynamics. Her work is informed by formal training in counselling psychology, an Early Childhood Education diploma, and years of frontline experience supporting young children and neurodivergent individuals in early learning and behavioural settings.

Jada works primarily with children, adolescents, and parents who are feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, big emotions, behavioural challenges, or ongoing family stress. Having spent many years in preschool settings and family-centred environments, Jada brings a practical, developmentally grounded understanding of how children’s emotions and behaviours show up across home, school, and relational contexts. Her approach is developmentally informed, attachment-based, and collaborative. Jada views children’s behaviours as meaningful communication shaped by their nervous systems, relationships, and environments. Rather than focusing on “fixing” a child, she helps families in understanding what emotions and behaviours are communicating, and how to respond in ways that support emotional regulation, confidence, and connection. She often works closely with parents, offering guidance and coaching alongside direct child therapy. Jada draws from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and emotion-focused and attachment-based frameworks, thoughtfully adapting each to the child’s developmental stage and family context. She strives to create a warm, non-judgmental space where children feel safe to express themselves and parents feel supported.

Outside of her work, Jada is a mother of two teenagers, an avid hiker and yogi, and musician. She and her family reside in Cochrane.

Please note that intern services are not eligible for insurance reimbursement and are offered at a reduced fee as part of supervised training with our registered psychologists.

Do you ever feel like you’re juggling too much and constantly falling short? Maybe you’re navigating a major life transition, struggling with anxiety or self-doubt, or feeling stuck between wanting change and not knowing where to begin. Perhaps your relationships feel strained, or you’re trying to set boundaries while worrying how others might respond. Whatever brings you here, you don’t have to face it alone.

I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist and Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) from Yorkville University. I work with children (ages 9+), pre-teens, teens, adults, and couples, supporting clients through the messy, complicated, and very human parts of life; anxiety, stress, self-doubt, relationship challenges, emotional regulation, and the lasting impact of past experiences.

I believe therapy doesn’t need to feel stiff, intimidating, or overly clinical. Instead, I strive to create a space where you can take a deep breath, show up just as you are, and feel safe enough to laugh, cry, reflect, or simply say, “I don’t know where to start.” Our work begins by exploring what brings you to therapy and identifying your goals, then collaborating on practical, meaningful strategies that support growth, confidence, and clarity.

When working with children and families, therapy often includes games, drawing, stories, or creative activities to help make sense of big feelings, because healing and growth don’t always happen through “serious talk” alone. Whether we’re playing, problem-solving, or sitting with difficult emotions, my goal is to create a space that feels safe, genuine, and deeply human.

My therapeutic style is collaborative, compassionate, and down-to-earth. I draw from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), while grounding my work in client-centred and humanistic principles. This integrative approach allows me to meet you where you are, honour your lived experiences, and tailor therapy to what works best for you. Healing is about uncovering strengths, building new tools, and creating space for meaningful change.

Therapy with me is a place where you can be real and be supported without judgment. Life can feel heavy enough; therapy doesn’t need to add to that weight. If you’re ready to feel more grounded, connected, and empowered in your life, I would be honoured to walk alongside you.

Do you ever feel like you’re juggling too much and constantly falling short? Maybe you’re navigat... Read More
